What are the functional Vs nutritional benefits of additives?
It’s important to know that following the same principle as human food, all additives added to pet food, are safe, permitted and regulated by EU legislation.
Nutritional additives are ingredients dogs and cats need in their diet. They are key to support many vital functions in the body. These includes vitamins and amino acids, but can also include trace elements such as ferrous sulphate monohydrate (which delivers iron).
Functional (or technological) additives are antioxidants, preservatives and stabilisers – compounds that help maintain the food and its flavour, while keeping it safe over time.
